Febreze Air Purifier
FHT170W Review

My family has been using air purifiers in my home since I was a pre-teen.  I’d recently been considering purchasing one for my son with seasonal allergies. When I was offered the opportunity to review the new Febreze Tabletop HEPA-type Air Purifier White ($64.99), I jumped at the chance.  Though it arrived after the seasonal allergies lifted, we were going on vacation in an RV and in a condo in NC. We tossed it in the RV, and off we went!

At 10PM at night, the entire family was exhausted, and I realized we’d forgotten the sound machine and didn’t have a second fan, which we use as white noise for the boys.  You’ve never seen a woman open a box faster than me, I can promise you that. In what felt like two seconds, I had that puppy out of the box, filter in, Febreze cartridge in, plugged in, and off to bed.  The most difficult part was trying to put the cartridge in upside down. Thankfully it only goes in one way, so bleary-eyed, exhausted, traveling mothers such as myself have an idiot-proof way of putting in the cartridge properly.

The noise is actually very quiet, but it did work to muffle some of the outdoor activity.  If you’re looking for a white-noise machine, you may want to purchase a box fan instead.  I would liken it to the gray-fuzz screens on our TV’s lowest settings. I realize I’m dating myself here a bit, but I’m assuming at least most mother’s out there can still reach back in their memory banks for this reference. There are varying speeds, too, if that function in important to you.

The size of the unit is on the smaller size for air filters, but it appears to work as well as the larger units I’ve used in the past. The filter was easy to put in and lasts approximately 3 months.  There is an indicator light on the unit when it needs to be changed.  Note: I waited until the following day to reset the indicator since the pillow was my #1 goal.

The Linen cartridge came with our unit. There is a wide range of aeromatic settings, so you can choose what level suits your needs.  I placed it on the highest setting, and while *I* noticed the difference, I promise it’s only because I put the cartridge in and know it’s there. This is not a strong odor that hits you in the face when you walk in the door. It is a light, pleasant smell which is perfect.  It also has an indicator as to when to replace it, which is after approximately one month.

When we arrived at our rental condo, there was a unique sewer smell in the bathroom.  After running the air filter, I barely notice the smell, so I’m VERY happy with the air filter for that issue alone.  Living in a 500sf condo and even smaller RV with three little kids can create its own funk of odors, so this machine has scored well with me.

I would absolutely recommend this product, and I plan to use it for years to come. Thank you to Febreze for allowing me to test and review their product!
