This Week's Welcome

August 25, 2015

I am writing a short note only to say that my father lost his battle with lung cancer on Saturday.  We received the devastating news that the doctors were discontinuing treatment last Tuesday afternoon.  Though I questioned their decision at that time, it is obvious they made the best and most humane one they could make.  We prayed for a quick and merciful end to his suffering, which was obviously answered.

The day that he died, there were yellow butterflies following me and his good friend around everywhere.  I had the luck of being the last to speak with him.  I asked how his pain was and if he was doing okay.  For a brief second his face was back to 'normal,' his voice was stronger than ever, and he moved his arm and fist when he said "Oh, no sweat.  I'm coming through like a champ" (or something to that effect).  Then he said "I just wanted to make sure everyone was okay."

The weight of the world has lifted from my shoulders.  The pain and suffering he was going through was eating me alive.  I'm glad for him to now be pain free and with us every day, watching us every day, and living on in our hearts and in our minds.

I miss you, Daddy, but I know you're with me always now.  I love you.
