Review: Disney on Ice Rockin' Ever After

By Alicia Noonan November 20, 2012
Last night I had the opportunity to experience Disney on Ice Rockin' Ever After with my 2 young nieces. "They are going to love it, I thought, but I will surely be bored." Boy, was I wrong! It brought me back to my childhood when Ice Capades was THE show to see (guess I'm showing my age!)

The show opened with Mickey and Minnie and lots of colorful skaters. They skated and "danced" to old favorites such as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "We Got The Beat". Donald Duck and Goofy then made an appearance along with Pinocchio, who told a little lie to everyone and had his nose grow right before our eyes. The girls found this quite funny.

The show consisted of four stories-

The Little Mermaid
Tangled
Brave
Beauty and the Beast

Little Mermaid consisted of all the characters - Sebastian the Crab, Flounder, Ursula the Sea Witch, Prince Eric and all seven of Ariel's sisters. They acted out a shortened version of the story. They had a great scene where lots of skaters dressed as sea creatures (sea horses, starfish etc) came out and skated under black lites with their beautiful neon colored costumes. Ariel also did an "air" routine suspended from the ceiling and holding on to a rope.

Tangled also was a shortened version of the original story that included Flynn Rider and a skating Maximus the horse. Mother Gothel sang "Mother Knows Best" which was a popular scene in the movie. There were a bunch of floating lanterns suspended from the ceiling which was neat.

After intermission, Mickey returned and began to narrate the store of Brave and it's main character Merida. They had and archery contest on the ice to see who would be worth enough to marry Merida. She then took a turn and split the target in two with a fiery shot. The whole scene consisted of lots of Scottish music and the skaters were wearing kilts. This was my favorite story - the costumes were just beautiful!

Last, but not least, came Beauty and The Beast.  Again it was an adaption of the original story but included Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs Potts & Chip.  As usual,  Gaston tried his best to impress Belle. There were some effects such as "fireworks" during the stormy scene.

Thanks to FELD Entertainment for providing me with the tickets to see this spectacular show. Of course, it was a dream for all the little girls but there were plenty of boys who were just as excited to be there! If you love Disney, then you will love this show!
