Review: CORNucopia at Philipsburg Manor

By Suzanne Calligan-Courtien for Macaroni Kid September 10, 2013
Well I hate to say it but I can’t resist- it was aMAIZEing.  Despite some rain, my 4 and 7 year old each had a great time and us big kids found it enjoyable as well. The site and staff were organized, friendly, and had plenty to offer. We were greeted by a fresh bag of popcorn to get us on our way. We participated in a corn shucking contest and got to keep whatever we managed to shuck in 30 seconds (we let our kids work together but next year we will jump in there).

They both claim their favorite activities were the corn maze and the make your own scarecrow. They had period costumes and accessories on hand to create authentic 1750’s scarecrows. We also enjoyed learning about the Grist Mill and see it actually operate. We even picked up a bag of ground corn meal that was made on site so we can enjoy some corn bread and/or muffins at a later date. There was dancing, live music, tastings, games, cooking demos and more. It was a wonderful way to spend our Labor Day holiday together!
