Review: Boxed Wholesale, An Online Warehouse Club

By Sabrina Condon, Macaroni Kid Brewster-Mahopac-Carmel February 24, 2015

We all know the traffic on Federal Road and the parking issue at one particular wholesale club over there.  On the weekends, we avoid that area on the plague, but during the week I have to go with the children.  Whichever way you approach it, the task is a difficult one for any parent.

We were recently offered the opportunity to check out Boxed, an online wholesale club.  Boxed has no membership fees, allows for easy shopping from your computer or phone, and the wholesale priced goods are delivered to your door.  You an even earn free shipping by meeting minimum purchase amounts, and your first shipment is free regardless.

I looked through the site and found 90% of the non-refrigerated goods we purchase on Federal Road was available at Boxed.  I compared the prices to  my last receipt, and I found the pricing reasonably similar, though generally $0.50-$2 higher per item.  That being said, the prices on diapers are far more reasonable that the common online places that we’ve purchased from in the past.  In order to avoid the traffic, the parking, the lines, the lifting, the stuffing in my car around strollers and children, then I’m okay with the slightly elevated costs.

If I can gain back 2.5 hours in my day and shop online during naptime, this is a fantastic deal to me. Plus, I avoid the lack of inventory issue I find over in Danbury, especially when it pertains to organic items.  We’ll find something we like and return to purchase more, and it’s potluck whether it’s available that visit.  This is probably the straw that broke our camel’s back…we fight the traffic, the stoplights, the parking, pushing the heavy cart around for over an hour to load up, and 3 things we REALLY want are not available.

The last receipt I located was from Christmas, and I compared the items purchased with what was available online.  The items I noticed missing versus my receipt were primarily the refrigerated items, Pediasure, and the larger size batteries.  Otherwise I found everything from diapers to wipes to ketchup to York Peppermint Patties to cleaning supplies….really everything else that I regularly purchase at wholesale clubs.  I was especially pleased with the organic variety available on Boxed.  Since there are no membership fees, you can easily review the website for yourself at www.Boxed.com.
