County Executive MaryEllen Odell is pleased to announce the Tenth Annual Children’s Expo & Public Safety Day, which will take place rain or shine, on Saturday May 2nd from 11 am to 3 pm at the County’s TOPS (Training and Operations) building on the Donald B. Smith Campus, 112 Old Route 6 in Carmel. County Executive MaryEllen remarked, “The Children’s Expo and Public Safety Day has become an annual event that families look forward to attending year after year. It provides vital information about the resources the county offers to families in a fun and entertaining atmosphere. This allows children an opportunity to meet members of our incredible police and fire departments. To see our first responders in action doing demonstrations can leave a positive impression in children’s minds that stays with them as they grow.” The Fair has expanded every year since its inception, adding new representatives from many aspects of child safety and health: child abuse prevention, fire prevention, child car seat safety, and so much more.

Co-sponsored by the Bureau of Emergency Services (BES) and the Child Advocacy Center of Putnam County (CAC), the Children’s Safety Fair’s mission is to keep Putnam County children and families safe. The BES provides services and training to all fire, EMS and related emergency management personnel. Last year the Putnam County’s 9-1-1 Call Center fielded 89,688 calls, Fire Departments handled 3,458 calls, EMS handled 7,577 calls and BES provided training to 543 State and County Fire and EMS staff members. Marla Behler, Program Coordinator of the Child Advocacy Center, says, “Throughout the year, the CAC is dedicated to preventing child abuse and ensuring safety and treatment for abused children. By supporting initiatives to increase the public’s knowledge, we provide the tools to promote child safety and prevent tragedies. The Children’s Safety Fair, now celebrating its tenth year, was organized with this objective which continues to be a primary goal of the event.”

Entertainment includes a magic show, an animal safety program, and a Martial Arts (UMAC) demonstration. The Mahopac Falls Dive Team will be on hand, and, if weather cooperates, there will be a STAT helicopter landing. In addition, other favorite activities include: Operation SAFE CHILD cards, NYSEG Live Wire demonstration, tours of the 911 Center, car seat checks, the Brewster Fire Safety House and fire engine tours. There will be live music from Kicks 105 radio, games, raffles, food and lots of free giveaways!!!

Major sponsors for the 2015 event include Eric Gross, Putnam County Tourism, Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Durants Party Rentals and Pine Grove Country Day School. Over 25 local organizations will be in attendance offering information on their areas of expertise.
