What kid does not absolutely LOVE bubbles? They’re drawn like moths to a flame no matter where the bubbles appear. I’d heard great things about the Gazillion Bubble Show in NYC, and I jumped at the chance to take my two boys when we were invited to see it. We certainly were NOT disappointed. It was a fantastic show.
The artists are all part of the Yang family, and our performer and artist was Deni Yang. He has been performing since the age of 4, and his enthusiasm for what he does certainly shows. He was fully engaged with the audience, clearly checking to make sure the audience was enjoying the show, and several audience children were brought on stage to perform with him. HINT: prep your child ahead of time to raise his/her hand and give a BIG, excited smile to increase your chances of being chosen.
The show starts off with a gazillion bubbles (they are not lying with that name!) covering the audience. It was enough for you to enjoy the bubbles thoroughly without being covered in bubble solution. From there, Deni performed one mystifying trick after another with bubbles. There were giant bubbles, bubbles inside of bubbles, square bubbles (I kid you not, Sean specifically asked me how he did that…no clue, buddy, no clue), smoke filled bubbles, and…wait, what? Yes, smoke filled bubbles. Deni was able to create bubbles filled with fog. As the bubbles popped, the fog would wisp up into the air. HINT: get center, first few row seats, to have several fog-filled bubbles float your way for popping.
It was an amazing experience, and my children are begging to go again. They spent no less than 2 hours after the show on the back steps trying to recreate what Deni did. It was quite the battle to drag them back inside for bed. I highly recommend going.
We were able to take the West Side highway and avoided most traffic related issues. We made it in about 1 hour. There was a parking lot and parking garage directly across from the theater. This made is simple for me, as my two boys also had a family friend with them. The theater and small novelty shop opens 30 minutes before show-time, and ushers are there to help direct you to seats. The bathrooms are down the hall, around the corner, bright lit, clean, and easy to use.
The children can dance to the pre-show music, grab snacks from the snack vendor that visits one time (grab him while he’s there, visit the bar for snacks, or bring your own), watch i-max sized sea life image on screen, and also take their picture inside a giant bubble. The picture you see of my boys is NOT a green screen. It is an ACTUAL, giant bubble they put my boys into. For $20 they will take the photo, put it in a little memorabilia folder for you, bring it to your seat, and you can email request the digital copy either from your phone or when you’re home.
Cell phones and cameras during the show are not allowed to be on or used. Let me tell you, it was incredibly hard to not grab my camera the entire show. Watching the boys’ looks of amazement, wonder, and jumping for bubbles was something I’d LOVE to have had on video. This is one show that will remain in my memory for a lifetime, though.
One word of caution, there are a gazillion bubbles. Both boys (though not the friend) somehow had one pop in or near their eye. There were some tears at the end of the show because of that, which faded fairly quickly afterwards.
