We were invited to see the Royal Hanneford Circus at Westchester County Center President’s Day Weekend (more shows available through this Monday). Despite the concern for weather, we trekked down there and we were SO glad we did. This show had one of the most unique lineup of acts I’ve personally seen, and they were all fantastic.
Sean said his favorite act was the motorcycle Sphere of Fear with the four simultaneous riders, which appeared to be baby Siobhan’s favorite as well (is she warning me that she’s into the “bad boy” image?). Personally I feel the children were most ecstatic over the trained housecats, believe it or not. They not only found it amazing but hysterical, most likely because the boys could relate it to our cats at home. Sean insists he’ll teach our cats (one the size of a house, the other incredibly skittish) how to do some of the same tricks.
They also laughed endlessly at Grandma the Clowns slapstick comedy. It was great to watch them laugh and react with such enthusiasm. We do enjoy attending shows and circuses, so when something causes them to react with such joy, I know how genuine it is for them.
Jim and I were most amazed at the bear acts. Have you ever seen one ride a bicycle? Yes, a bicycle. You can cross that off your bucket list when you see it at Hanneford Circus. Positively amazing. The elephants were also spectacular, allowed the rider to come nearly eye level with us in the balcony level.
And speaking of the balcony level, we were up high and had a perfect view. To return again I would ask for the same seats. We were able to peer down into all three rings and had a great view. Even with a tall and large man seated in front of us, my 2yo and 4yo had no trouble seeing everything. And when the 5mo needed a nap, I could stand against the back wall and rock her stroller still able to view everything perfectly.
For human performances, the aerialists, unicyclists, and other performers were all outstanding as well. The quick change performers were the most jaw dropping. How anyone can have a bucket of glitter thrown on them and immediately be in a different outfit, I will never figure out.
The Westchester County Center, as always, was clean and staffed with friendly employees. Even the officers out front and directing traffic were wishing everyone a good time at the circus. The food is the usual fast-food fare offered at the two concession stands. While employees were not going through the isles with food options, there were plenty of opportunities to purchase a variety of light-up toys and swords.
I highly recommend going this weekend. Your children will enjoy and watch attentively throughout the entire show!
