Review: Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash Spray

By Sabrina Condon, Macaroni Kid Brewster-Mahopac-Carmel October 14, 2014

There are a large variety of diaper rashes that we all deal with on each child.  My latest child seems to have a large amount of varying kinds requiring a drawer full of different creams.  Sometimes it’s a yeast infection, sometimes a food allergy, and sometimes it’s a run-of-the-mill, regular diaper rash.  Every one, though, makes me cringe when I reach for the cream.  I’m sorry, but cream is messy.  It’s all over your hands, it’s all over the table, you ALWAYS use 10x too much, and heaven forbid your child reaches down there.  I don’t know about you, but even on the third baby, is a flailing chaotic mess of diaper cream everywhere.

When Dr. Smith’s offered me the opportunity to test their new Dr. Smith’s Diaper Rash SPRAY, I jumped at the chance.  The active ingredient of 10% Zinc Oxide is perfect for the everyday type rash my 13mo gets.  And it’s so, incredibly easy to use.  I can unlock it by easily turning the top, and with one hand spray it onto her bottom exactly where I’d like.

It’s hard to find a fault in this spray.

  • My hands stay that much cleaner.
  • The diaper change is so much quicker…she doesn’t even have time to reach down.
  • The spray goes exactly where needed.
  • It goes in the exact amounts that I want.

It’s now my go-to for her everyday rashes.  The fumes are minimal, which I love.  I had to really stick my nose close to notice any fumes.  This is versus an anti-fungal spray (not Dr. Smith’s, clearly) that I’ve previously used where a plume of fumes enveloped us.  There also isn’t any awful odor to this spray, which I also appreciate.  What’s worse than a baby with a rash?  A smelly baby with a rash.  Dr. Smith’s Diaper Rash Spray leaves my baby smelling like a baby.

The spray mechanism, while not challenging for me, does require enough adult pressure that a baby wouldn’t be able to accidentally spray it.  In fact my 3yo was unable to do it, and even my 5yo was struggling though he was able to manage it after a bit.

The spray does go on cold, which is nice in the warmer months.  The first few diaper changes, the baby was surprised by the spray, but after the 5th one, she didn’t seem to mind it at all.  I found even the wipes themselves were a cooler temperature.

I would definitely recommend trying Dr. Smith’s Diaper Rash Spray.
