This year marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day which is celebrated on April 22nd. The theme for 2021 is: Restore Our Earth. However, the goal of this day has always been the same to bring awareness around environmental problems. It is also a time of action as many organize community clean up efforts, plant trees and just enjoy all that nature has to offer!
We, in the Putnam area, are fortunate to have access to wonderful hiking areas, lakes and parks all year round. If you and your family are looking for activities geared more for Earth Day though, I've got a few suggestions that hit upon all ages. Of course, please be sure to take COVID precautions to stay safe!
- Bingo at Mahopac Library- Stop in anytime this month to get your bingo card and return it by 4/30 for a prize
- Clean Up Southeast- Calling all volunteers to organize small groups with supplies provided by the town on 4/24 and 4/25
- Craft at Kent Library- Register and learn more for pickup and video instruction info on 4/20
- Free Seeds for Planting with Butterfield Library- Bring your green thumb on down to pick up seeds for your own garden
- Hike and Picnic- This is my personal fave especially when dogs ARE allowed 🐶
Whatever you do though, be sure to have fun and use the day to instill a lifetime love for Mother Nature!
