Welcome to Hong Ik Martial Arts in Putnam County!

"It truly checks all the boxes and supports my child physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually."

This is one of the many comments parents have made while witnessing the positive growth and transformation of their children while training at Hong Ik Martial Arts.

A familiar face in the martial arts space in Westchester and New Jersey, Hong Ik Martial Arts has opened their doors right here in Brewster at Lakeview Plaza (1511 Route 22).  Other locations include the original Tarrytown studio plus those in New Rochelle and Bronxville.  In New Jersey, there’s Fairlawn and Mahwah.

Grand Master Yoo, the founder of Hong Ik Martial Arts as well as Korea Taekwondo Association: President of New York State was inspired to start a school in the U.S. after experiencing the respect, vitality, and generosity of the people here while touring as a KTigers Demonstration Team member.  He moved to this country right after completing his military duty in Korea.

Hong Ik means ‘to spread benefits widely’ in Korean and embodies the school’s philosophy to encourage each student to work to be their best; physically, mentally and spiritually.

Each and every student is thoughtfully guided to fulfill their fullest potential and to become productive and kind members of their community.

Student Saya, who began in elementary school and is now in her first year of college, said this of her experience:

When Grandmaster Yoo asked me to make a speech before leaving for college, I felt inundated by emotions and reflections. How could I adequately speak about my Taekwondo experience, one that has touched so many aspects of my life? Taekwondo has helped me to manage my anxiety, cultivate positive energy, and learn from challenges and failures. Taekwondo has shown me how to become more in-tune with my body and mind, how to collaborate and build relationships with other people, and how to cultivate self-trust and respect.”

And parents to two young girls Atessa and DeLila says their training “helps strengthen their focus and continues to build their confidence, both important skills that they carry over into other aspects of their lives, like school.  Plus, our girls are just having fun as they’re continuing to advance in their skills and techniques!”

Many children start from their earliest years and build their confidence and strength through the support and individual attention they receive at Hong Ik Martial Arts:

Our son, Zaydan has been part of the Hong Ik family since he was 5. We have watched his interests grow and change with sports and hobbies over his short life thus far; the exception has been with Taekwondo, for which his interest and love has only grown.  We are very grateful to have a teacher like Master Yoo in our community helping us guide our children in such valuable ways.  He loves our children, he believes in them, he motivates them, he instills confidence, positivity, mindfulness and both physical and mental strength in them.  Thank you for leading Zaydan to his dream of achieving his Black Belt!!!

Hong Ik Martial Arts has something for everyone from age four and up. Grandmaster Yoo even teaches a class for adults called Tai Chi-Qigong which combines meditation, stretching, non-impact martial arts, and Qi-Gong or internal energy cultivation. Its benefits include building strength, stamina, balance and coordination while alleviating stress and improving mental acuity.

Now you can give you and your child the tools to thrive with confidence.  Introductory specials are available now and include a free private lesson from Hong Ik's world class masters.  Learn more and sign up for martial arts and mindfulness classes for pee wees, children, teens and adults here.
