Break out the Green

Looking for some ideas and ways to celebrate locally?  Here are some easy and fun picks:

Parades:  Every year, I look forward to the Northern Westchester-Putnam St. Patrick's Day parade.  It is a time when everyone breaks out of the their home as Spring is just around the corner.  It's so nice to set up some folding chairs, pack some snacks, hear all kinds of music, bump into neighbors and be dazzled by those marching.  The parade has been postponed for two years but it's back on Sunday, March 13th.  Find out more here.  If you cannot make this parade though, Yonkers has one on Saturday, March 19th.  Find out more here.

Craternoon:  Reed Library has you covered with a fun rainbow jar class where participants fill them with gold!  Find out more here.

Musical Chairs with Celtic Music: For those that love music and kids that need to use up some extra energy, bring out the chairs and crank up some Celtic Music for an instant twist on this classic game.

Go Green with Food: Do you have kids that aren’t always great about eating their fruits and vegetables? Consider making St. Patrick’s Day a green-food-only day and challenge them to see what foods they can find that are green. It’s a fun way to incorporate some fruits and vegetables into the holiday.

Treasure Hunt:  Hide gold coins in as many places as you can think of and then draw a treasure map giving them some clues about which areas of the house contain parts of the treasure.
